GARABATOS

THE THREE PROPERTIES OF COLOUR

A colour system takes into account the three fundamental properties or attributes of colour: hue, value and saturation

Hue or tone: the property that gives a colour its specific name: green, blue, orange...

You can also use terms shade and tint to talk about the hue

Saturation: Saturation refers to how pure a colour is. Colours with low saturation are called neutral or grey. The terms vividness, intensity and chroma also refer to saturation.

Value: the amount of lightness or darkness in a colour is called its value. Other terms for value are brightness and luminosity.
